My Favourite Thriller

My favourite thriller has to be ''MEMENTO"

Memento

Memento is a 2000 American psychological thriller film written and directed by Christopher Nolan.
It stars Guy Pearce as Leonard Shelby, a man with anterograde amnesia which renders his brain unable to store new memories. During the opening credits, which portrays the end of the story, it is shown that Leonard kills Teddy (Joe Pantoliano). The film suggests that this killing is in vengeance for the rape and murder of his wife (Jorja Fox) based on information provided by Natalie (Carrie-Anne Moss). Memento chronicles two separate stories of Leonard, an ex-insurance investigator who can no longer build new memories, as he attempts to find the murderer of his wife, which is the last thing he remembers. One story line moves forward in time while the other tells the story backwards revealing more each time.

Group Preliminary Exercise

Our task was to produce a primiraly exercise and post it onto youtube then onto our blogs. We worked in a group of four. Two of us appeared in the video whilst the other two produced the video. The video was very differnt to our Vox Pop video, the way we produced it was very different. Tomi and I used the camera to video Chanel and Chree. The camera was on its stand, and we use different angle shots, extreme close ups on chanel hand, a mid shot of Chanel and Chree talking, a long shot of Chanel walkin down the corridor and aso a close up of chanel talkin to Chree alone. We would zoom in or out sometimes when we were recording this video. Before we made this video we created a storyboard what we wanted in the video, in the storyboard, we drew down several types of shots that we would like, and see how many seconds each shot would last.

Our Vox Pop Analysis

One useful source of news is a vox pop. This is where journalists or special researchers go out into the street to ask members of the public for their views on matters of current public concern.
We made a vox pop video and we posted it on youtube and then posted it onto our blogs. To produse our Vox pop we chose three people out of a wide range of an audience and aske them the followin questions
  • 'What is your favourite thriller',
  • 'What do you like about the thriller genre.'
  • 'What makes a great thriller'
And as you can see in the third post below this, you can see all the answers to our questions. We worked in a group of four two of them produce it whilst the of two acted in the video. We use differnrt shots in the video, close ups, long shots etc. Our vox pop lasted about approximately 2 mintues long. We produce our Vox Pop in aplace where we knew that there would be a wide range of audience members.
The media use vox pops for many reasons, but chiefly for the following:
  • to test public opinion and reaction
  • to influence decision-makers
  • to forecast results of events
  • to stimulate public debate
  • to promote the newspaper, radio or television station, and make it more popular
